Service Notes
On this final Sunday of the church year—Christ the King Sunday—Fr. Tom Purdy invites us to step back into the Good Friday moment when Jesus hangs between two criminals. It is an unexpected ending to the liturgical cycle: not resurrection glory, not Pentecost fire, but a return to the cross. Here, in a place marked by scarcity, fear, and finality, one dying man sees what no one else can—the overflowing abundance of God revealed in Christ.
Through the humility, mercy, forgiveness, and love Jesus offers even in His final breaths, we discover the true meaning of kingship and the doorway into a kingdom not of this world. As we also approach Thanksgiving, Fr. Tom reflects on how the abundance we celebrate around our own tables becomes a call to gratitude, joy, and blessing others.
Join us as we end the church year where hope seems least likely—yet where God’s abundance shines most brightly.
