Service Notes
This week, Father Tom reflects on Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless tale The Emperor’s New Clothes and connects it with Jesus’ parables on discipleship. Just as the child in the fable dares to speak the truth others deny, Jesus calls us to boldness — to uncover the lies of the world, resist self-deception, and courageously follow Him, no matter the cost.
Discipleship, as Father Tom reminds us, is not easy. It means naming the lies around us, loving Christ above all else, and sometimes becoming the “cheerful Charlie” in our families and communities — truth-tellers even when it is hard. The cost of following Jesus is great, but the cost of not following is far greater.
