On Sunday, October 5, 2025, The Rt. Rev. Charles Bennison preached on Gospel of Luke 17:6, 24, 37 — a striking passage where Jesus speaks of mustard seed faith, flashes of lightning, and the unpredictability of the end times. Drawing on the imagery of football, war, and even physics, Bishop Bennison explored what it means to live faithfully in an unpredictable world.
Just as football reaches its most intense moments near the end zone, he likened Jesus’ journey toward Jerusalem to a drive down the field — with the stakes growing higher as the finish line approaches. Life, like a football game or a lightning flash, can be sudden, random, and uncertain. But faith — even faith as small as a mustard seed — has the power to uproot and transform the created order.
Bishop Bennison reminds us: faith isn’t something to “increase.” It’s something to use. And we activate it most powerfully through prayer.
