What a joy it was to experience the Book Fair at Burroughs Molette Girls and Boys Club this week. There were over 100 children ranging in age from 4 to 12 years old with smiles on their faces as they entered the room to explore the world of books. Tables were set up in the center of the room, offering a myriad of choices, all generously donated by Glynn Episcopal Ministries supporters, including Christ Church parishioners. A separate table featured bookmarks, stickers, and the not-to-be-missed lollipops.

Dwala Nobles, of Good Shepherd in Brunswick, organized and led the activities with a vibrant spirit that sparked the imaginations of each child in attendance. She invited them all into the Book Fair after leading the children in a rousing chant of “I love to read!” Once inside the room, volunteers, many of whom were our very own Christ Church parishioners, assisted each child in selecting a carrying bag in the color of their choice, along with two books to take home. You should have seen the surprise on their faces when they were told that the books were theirs to keep forever, and they did not need to return them.

Overall, I think that we, the volunteers, received so much more from these children than we ever imagined, as we witnessed moments only God can arrange. It was especially rewarding as the last group exited with their selections, and one little girl unexpectedly turned around, came running back to me, and gave me a huge hug along with a big smile. The Outreach Ministry at Christ Church is exciting and growing. Please consider donating and/or joining us for the next Book Fair in July. It’s a great way to experience the light of God’s presence and abundant joy.
